I was just wondering why you all picked TR North last week when you had them ranked 9th and Brick ranked 6th? As a matter of fact I don't think you even had North as a team to watch in your preview. Can you explain to me why such a change? It could not have been the victory over an out classed tr south team.

I can only speak for myself...I picked TRN because I thought they were the physically stronger team and Brick would have trouble scoring.

In the prior polls, Brick was ranked and TR N was not. It made no sense to rate them ahead of Bri ck before they played.

As for preseason - that's usually always a shot in the dark, especially when you get past the top five or six obvious choices.

Then why did you still rank brick ahead of trn in week two after both teams played one game? If all of you, and I know you can only speak for yourself, picked north then why were they not ranked ahead of brick in the week two poll?

In preseason Bick was ranked No. 7, TRN was not ranked.

Then they both won their first games. Sooo..after that..why would one lift TRN from unranked to ahead of Brick???

Who is ranked where has nothing to do with the weekly picks.

We just pick who we think is going to win..no matter what the rankings....at least that's how I do it. For better (and often) for worse..

So what you are saying is that even though you ranked brick ahead of tr north you thought north was the better team and you picked north. That does not make much sense. I think you liked brick but you guys wanted to play north up so you could write about what a great upset brick pulled off against a much bigger and stronger team. Because to say that everybody at the app thought North was better but you all had Brick ranked 3 spots higher does not make any sense at all.

I see what you're saying..but in a poll situation that's not the way it usually - stress usually - (there are always exceptions) - works.

After week one games..Brick already was head of TRN...based on both teams winning it was felt there was no reason to place TRN ahead of Brick at that point - especially since they were playing the next game which is very key.

Sure..we could have done that - but what was the justification? At that juncture it seemed more logical - via the poll - to allow the play on the field decide.

Let's say we put TRN ahead of Brick..and then Brick won. How would that have appeared??

As it turned out....towards the end of the week the Pick Sixers felt TRN would win that game..

There was no ulterior motive as you suggest...don't give us that much credit.

I thought this string was for predictions - so here goes.

RFH over Keansburg
SJ Vianney over Barnegat
Jackson over TR East

should be Lacey over
Long Branch, but will be close

being an alum..ill go with long branch over lacey to get to 2-0 and fuel a big run through their schedule..i like them to finish with 3 losses at most and get a home playoff game for the first time in 4 years on this new field that is supposed to be ready by that time

East has a strong offense-and their defense is also very good. Jackson's loss against Southern shows their defense is stingy, but Southern has not had much of an offense in the entire Chuck Donahue era, therefore Jackson has not seen an offense as powerful as the East offense. This will be a true test for Jackson to see how the creation of Liberty effects the talent available. I see East winning by three touchdowns.
Another big game for Barnegat against Vianney. Barnegat is still recuperating from key injuries. IF Barnegat's defense can stop the freshman sensation Charles Davis, they may get back on the winning track and make a run for it. Holmdel's D shut down Davis and Coursey the week before that, so they are obviously keying on the game-breakers. Barnegat gave up 200+ yards to Coursey last week but they buckled down most of the night. Take away the fumble recovery for a TD and punt late in the game instead of going for it on 4th down and give Squan the longer field and Barnegat would not have had to go into OT and would have won the biggest game ever for their young program. I go with the heart on this one and pick Barnegat in a close contest.
Rumson over Keansburg despite all 6 picking Keansburg.
Lacey is not as powerful as last year but their D will be tough. They are smaller but move well to the ball. Roe does a good job as does Rickmers. They miss Sean McAndrews but Warren Smith is playing very capable D along with some good QBing. I look for Lacey to win by 2 TDs.

I was a little (a lot actually) surprised that all six of us took K Burg.

Teams appear to be about even. Myself..just going on a hunch since K Burg carried the play last year despite the defeat and many of the same players return.

Regarding TRN / Brick... and rankings:

This was a tough non-division game for Brick against a pretty good TRN team. Brick or TRN could have won the game, and would be a good postseason re-match (although I think they're in different groups). Brick's defense is very good, and TRN is very big, so the final score shouldn't surprise anyone.

Bottom line: TRN is big, balanced, and has possibly the best (and dirtiest)defensive PLAYER in the shore. Plus, their toughest remaining games (Middletown South, Jackson, and Brick Mem) are at TRN.
They don't play TRE until Thanksgiving,so there's a chance they'll absorb only 1 loss (MTHSS)prior to playoff seeding. They probably deserve to be ranked a bit higher, but may need to silence a few more critics.

TRN schedule: The rest of the way one of the most demanding if not the most demanding among Shore Conf. teams and figure a playoff game or two in there as well...
