It is Holmdel's first outright divisional title since 1986. It has a chance to be the top seed in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II playoffs. Next game: Friday vs. Red Bank (2-5)
Dropped out: Point Boro.

Another garbage job on the polls. How does a number 10 beat a number 8 and the number 10 does not even move, while the number 8 drops out. I can tell you how, big program bias and slobbing the knob of certain programs, that is how.

I saw the Holmdel/Pt. Boro game and neither team deserves to be mentioned when discussing top teams. They would get hammered in the american division.

Small schools: In my opinion - Asbury Park would be head of K Burg (which it defeated) which would be ahead of Rumson (which lost to K Burg. Yes I know - Rumson beat AP but that was Week One.

So now the qestion is - would AP beat Holmdel? My answer - maybe. But Holmdel is 8-0.

Re the other question...Holmdel is No. 10 because - at least I feel - it would not beat Wall or Midd. South, etc.

And has not played the schedule (not its fault) that those schools, etc., have played.

But - in the end - say Holmdel goes 12-0 and wins CJ 2 or maybe gets to the final and goes 11-1..it'll probably shoot up in the polls - no question - well, in my opinion...

I completely get your reasoning in the ranking, but it still stands that Pt Boro was ranked 8th with a similar schedule to Holmdel and now, after beating them, they remain the same. Obviously the schedules come into play, but so does big program bias. Nothing that can be done about that. The fact is that some schools won't get their fair shake because they are not the "traditional" football schools even though its student body and town has roughly the same demographics and socio-economic make up as both Middletown schools and to a lesser extend Matawan. Maybe it is too much to ask after futility since 1991, but would Manasquan have to deal with the same issues in the polls even though their schedule is the same? My gut says no.

But then again, it is damn nice to be able to make this argument for the first time in 16 years.

Although I to agree with the second poster to a certain extent, Mr. Graham is right on this one. It is all about strength of schedule. It works the same way in the AP/USA/and BCS polls. It is not always fair, but even though this is a great year for a small program, it is best to focus on the positive. Even ranking Holmdel is an honor when you look at the breath of the program. Since the 1991 finals, this program has been in relative shambles. They had a late 90's resurgence only to have the administration alienate the coach and have him quit.

At a minimum this season has shown that the town does want a good program and will back them when things start rolling. Remember, Holdmel is not a regional school. You take it where you can get it.

It is not easy when your old school is 5.1 miles from Middletown South.

I don't always get Tony G way of thinking, but in all fairness to the Teams and programs of the bigger schools-they are where they are due to who they play!
Most of the small schools would not due very well against any of the group 4 American division teams..!!
I would also like to compliment Tony and the APP staff for reporting as much as they do on all the Shore Teams!!
The Star Ledger does a very poor job of even getting an article of any Shore Team!!
The Beast Teams have made their runs and their records reflect same.
Only the Play-offs will tell the final tale........
HS Football Fan........It's about the players not their parents!

Based on your own Top Ten Poll-
This has got to be the featured game of the week?! no matter who else is playing in SJ
-your #1 and #2 Teams are playing & the American Div Championship looms and #1 seed group 4 for Playoffs in the result!!!
W/ Carson back and the rest of the Team ready this should be a classic! we know that TR North has had two weeks to get ready and is the #1 Team in APP Poll! depends on
Coach Donahue's style it should be close, unless he opens up and lets his team go.........
Hope to see you there Tony!!!

Quoting anonymous - "I don't always get Tony G way of thinking, but in all fairness to the Teams and programs of the bigger schools-they are where they are due to who they play!"

I disagree. They are who they are because of the population of the schools. Fact is that Manasquan would be ranked higher then 10 if they were undefeated because they are a traditional football program. They play the same light schedule as the other Group 1-3 teams.

I do agree with you however on the North Jersey bias in the Ledger. Some of it earned, some of it not.

IF TRN beats Southern and TRE beats TRN on Thanksgiving will it create a Three way tie for the American Division championship? Just wondering.

So now where do we go with the top 10. Obviously TRN is no 1. But where do we go from there. I think you will put LB at no. 2 but LB only beat Wall by 1 point, today unranked Lacey mauled Wall. Even though Lacey lost in OT to LB and then lost to Howell don't they deserve to be ranked in the top 10. I certainly think they do. They have beaten a surprising Brick who beat Southern. Where do you put Southern who now has 2 losses. And Pt. Boro came back after losing a heartbreaker to Holmdel to totally outplay Barnegat. Holmdel was lucky to come away with a win against Barnegat in double OT. TRE is looking good and moving like a well-oiled machine again, and I am waiting with anticipation for their match up against TRN.

Re: new poll. It will be here on line at mid night Sunday (Monday morning).

I look for Southern to take a spill, perhaps two teams to exit and two new ones to appear....

Stay tuned...
