It would be a heck of an opening day upset ..though, especially in high school baseball, almost anything is possible.

Have you ever thought to do a story on parent involvement in High school sports. How kids don't get a fair shot at a varsity spot because other kids parents get to help choose the team or influence the coaches choices. Some High schools don't allow parent involvement others don't care and when parents become involve to promote there child and his or her friend alot of good players get hurt. It is going on at Red Bank Regional in both softball and baseball.

Over the years the Press has written some stories mainly on parents ""over" involvements in high school sports.

I, personally, have no plans to deal with any such issue this season - at Red Bank Regional or any other high school.

These issues are common place at virtually every school - probably in America.

I know our scholastic sports department - which I like to think does a fine job - is up to its ears producing stories, roundups, and notebooks on an every day basis.

You may certainly suggest your idea to our sports editor ghenderson@app.com...maybe he can come up with someone..but to focus on one school would not seem to be realistic - in my opinion.

St. Rose has been heralded recently about being such a great team. But look at their opponents within their division - not exactly the stiffest competition. Would St. Rose be so good if they had to play Ocean, Wall, or CBA? My guess is no!

I agree that St. Rose would probably not have as gaudy an overall record if they played in A North or A South for instance.....but hey.. who would? Depending on the year and the teams.

Last year they beat Gr IV Randolph and Bergen Cath. Non-Pub A in the Shore Chall, and topped Brick and Squan locally among their wins in a two-loss season.....lost a thriller in eight innings.. a great game - I was there - at TR South...and in 2004 defeated CBA 4-3 in nine innings in the SCT..While they might not go 20-2 every year in A North, Roses are a high quality program in my opinion..
