Class A North complete/full predicted order of finish in Saturday Rally

2007

My pick - CBA. Didn't have to be Einstein for this one.

Public champ? Ok..flipping a coin.. so tough between Colts Neck, Ftwp. M South, and MN ..and my pick is...Middletown North. Just a hunch on a veteran club. Don't bet the ranch.

Listed alphabetically

CBA
Coach: Marty Kenney (33rd year, 582-249)
Last year: (25-4, 13-1 A North)

Key returners: Kyle Slate (Sr., P, 6-1, 1.95 ERA); Dave Laufer (Sr., P, OF, 6-1, .380, 7 HR, 43 RBI, 2.15 ERA); Mike Galeotafiore (Sr., P/INF, .326, 4 HR, 29 RBI); John Moller (Jr., P, 3-0, 2.33 ERA); Dan Diaz (Sr., P/2B, .313, 2-0, 1.91 ERA); Jim Laufer (Sr., C/1B, .427, 6 HR, 32 RBI); A.J. Szatkowski (Sr., C); Marc Sansevere (Sr., OF, .357); Scott Micalief (Sr., OF); Steve McSherry (Jr., OF, .389). Key newcomers: Henry Rinkewich (Jr., 2B); Dan Avella (So., 3B); Mike Zuppe (Jr., P); Remy Cohen (Jr., P); Jordan Gilruth (Jr., P);John Himmelman (Jr., OF).

My outlook: Potentially one of CBA's best teams. Four returning pitchers combined for 17 wins and a 2.08 ERA. Five regulars batted over .300 and clouted 17 home runs and racked up 112 RBI. Maybe this will be the team that ends CBA's long (since 1977) state championship drought.

Colts Neck
Mike Yorke, 9th year
Record last year: 18-11 (7-5, B North).
Key returnees: A.J. Rusbarsky (Sr. SS, .400, 2 HR); Anthony DeSclafani (Jr., P, 5-2,
1.01 ERA); Dom Hayes (Sr., OF, P, 2-1, .485, 18 SB); Pete Salvati (Sr., 2B, .346); Ethan
Jackson (Sr., P/INF); Frank Piazza (Jr., C/OF, .333); Mickey Shaw (Sr., UT); Ashton
Jackson (Jr., OF); Mike O'Reilly (So., C). Key newcomers: Pat Specchio (Jr., INF); Matt
Crank (Jr., INF); Chris Coutros (Jr., P).

My outlook: Couguars seem ready to roar into A North with many regulars in their third and fourth
varsity seasons. DeSclafani (back problem end of last year) is said to be healthy. Hayes
moves from the bullpen into the rotation with transfers of Mike Yuhas (to Freehold) and
John Whitley (to Freehold Township).

Freehold Township

Coach: Frank Gualtieri (13th year).
Last year: (19-8, 10-4 A North)

Key returnees: Rodger Wilmot (Sr., P/OF, .373, 2 HR, 22 RBI); Ian MacLean (Jr., 1B, .313); Brian Cooney (Sr., OF/2B, .309); Chase Majewski (Sr., OF); Matt Porecelli (Sr., 2B); Chis Ballester (Jr., 3B, HR). Key newcomers: John Whitley (Sr., P, 4-2 transfer from Colts Neck); Austin Henderson (So., P); Matt Cadigan (So., P); Steve Panarese (Sr., C); Matt Grajek (Jr., P); Dave Banch (Sr., OF); Chris Geraldi (So., C); Bobby Anastasio (Jr., 3B).

My outlook: Pulled off a heck of trade to get Whitley, a potential number one. Did they at least give up a draft choice? A player to be named later? Despite losing nine seniors from last year's Public Division co-champs, Township could still be a force.

Howell
Coach: Bill Gallacher (7th, sixth at Howell, overall, 47-96)
Last Year: 6-14 (3-11 A North)
Key returners: Craig Kinmon (Sr., P, 2-5); Mike
Fiorillo (Jr/. OF/P, 1-3); Frank Ozello (Sr., 1B/P, 0-3); Sean O'Reilly (Sr., OF, HR); Brian Battaglia (Jr., SS/P, 2 HR). Key Newcomers: Casey Brannigan (Jr., 2B); Chance Carrick (Jr., OF); Andrew Dans (Jr., OF); Joe Labozzetta (Sr., P/INF); Joe
Locasicio (Sr., 3B/DH); Tim Lamirande (Jr., OF/P); Mike Pilot (Jr., C);
Nick Riccio (Jr., C/DH); Greg Weber (Jr., 1B/P); Randy Stratton (Jr., OF)

My outlook: O'Reilly and other members of the football team hope to transpose a winning habit to the diamond. But it could be a struggle in a tough division.

Manalapan
Coach: Brian Boyce (2nd year, 82-74 overall)
Last year: 8-15 (3-11 A North).
Key returnees: Dave Becker (Sr., P/1B, .292, HR); Shawn McGrane (Sr., P/OF, .286, 3 HR)); Jay Goldheimer (Sr.
OF); Nick Turano (Jr., C, .382). Key newcomers: Ryan Harvey (So., INF); Craig Peterson (Jr., INF); Mark Holmes (Jr., P); Chris Lamboy (Sr., INF); Dan Ciprut Sr., P/OF).

My take: Looks like some young and or inexperienced pitchers will have to mature in a hurry.

MARLBORO
Coach: Chris Lemore (2nd year, 8-15)
Last year: (8-15, 6-8 A North)

Key returnees: Adam Helfgott (Sr., INF); Adam Epstein (Sr., OF);
DJ Lalima (St., OF/P); Domenic Imperato (Sr., C),
Mark Lichtenthal (Sr., P); Bobby Richardson (Sr., DH/P); Pat Morelli
(Sr., OF; Craig Bodziner Jr., INF/P). Key newcomers: Jeremey Paster (Jr., INF); Jeff Paglio-Pizzi (Jr., OF); Tony Roegiers (Jr., INF); Jason Taub
(Jr., P/INF), Mike Dietrich (Jr., P); Phil Zanardi (Jr., P).

My outlook: At least on paper, potentially a rough year.

Middletown North
Coach: Jon Scala
2006 Record: 11-11 (7-7 A-North)
Key Returners: Kevin Englebrecht (Sr., 3B/P, .500, 4-2, 2.91 ERA); Kevin Mager (Sr., .441); Ryan Dougherty (Sr., P, 1-1); Sean Byrnes (Sr., RF/P, .304); Mike Collison (Sr., 2B, .308); Tanner Corris (Sr., OF); Mike Eberhart (Sr., C); Ryan Koegel (Sr., 1B); Andrew Melici (Sr., 3B/P, .250, HR); Chris Rotolo (Sr., 1B, .277); Chris Saginor (Sr., OF); Jim Trancucci (Sr., C). Key Newcomers: Andrew Cuppler (Sr., P); Matt Holly (Sr., P); Ryan Leonard (Jr., P); Chris Bavaro (Jr., C).

My outlook: A battle tested club that could challenge in A North. Mager leads a potent attack that swings the bats generally throughout the lineup. Will need Englebrecht and another arm or two to emerge into prominence.

Middletown South
Coach: Steve Antonucci (12th year, 167-106)
Last year: 8-15 (5-9 A North)

Key returners: Brian Dudzinski (Sr., P, 1-5, 5.19 ERA); Pat Magnotta (Sr., P, 3-3, 2.40 ERA); Garrett Thiel (Jr., OF, .340, 3 HR); Nigel Combs (Jr., P, 2-1, 2.95 ERA); ); Sean Barber (Sr., OF, .258, HR); Mike Farrell (So., INF/OF); Eric Dunn (Jr., INF, .417); Jack Provine (Jr., INF, .274); Will Schnoor (Sr., OF, .272); Mike Guarieni (Sr., INF). Key newcomers: Miles Santos (Jr., C); Matt Owsinski (Sr., C); Kevin Skirka (Jr., C); Erik Mate (Jr., INF); Steve Burgher (Sr., P)); Chris Kamna (Jr., P); Craig Sweeney (FR., OF).

Re: Last post on Colts Neck. Had a technical problem here. Anyway..after checking the roster Ethan Jackson is listed as a senior, DeSclafani is listed as a junior.

Re: M South. Overall they look pretty good..in my opinon depends on if Dudzinski is ready to be a little more consistent and if they find a little more sock in the lineup ..

Interesting pick with Midd. North, I guess that means Midd South vs Midd North on Monday is the game to see on opening day.

Re: MN vs. MSouth. Guess that's Englebrecht vs. Dudzinski. Could be the "game to see" at least in A North that day. Possibly an 8-6 game..something like that. Both teams swing the bat.

Middletown North vs. Middletown South should be the game of the week. Two solid teams. Middletown North in the win 5-2. Just a prediction from a follower of the two.
