what's up with rumson sitting their starters??? high school football is not the nfl. they should play a half atleast. now their players might get rusty and out of rhythm.

I doubt if their players will be "rusty."

Apparently RFHS does not believe in the sacred ""tradition" of Txgiving Day football and nor do I.

If I were the coach in what amounts to (for Rumson at least ) a mainly meaningless game with an NJSIAA championship game in the wings - I might do the same thing...

RUMSON LOSING 20-0 IN THE FIRST QUARTER. MAN ALL THESE YEARS THE SHORE HAD TEAMS PLAYING FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS AND I NEVER HEARD THEM KEEPING THEIR PLAYERS OUT. WHAT IF THEY DON'T WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME OR A KEY PLAYER GET HURT IN PRACTICE...THEY GONNA WISH THEY PLAYED IN THIS GAME.

I think they just don't wanna lose to RBC with their starters in..So now they have a excuse for losing to RBC. They don't want their confidence shaking by losing to RBC with their starters in too.

Well...this is going to be a hot topic of conversation, that's for sure.

I - personally - do not have a problem with keeping the starters out - though I can see both sides.

I'll bet Carteret (Rumson's opponent in the CJ 2 final) isn't happy. Their whole staff is probably there...

i didn't even think of that..but carteret still have film to watch.

Always brag about NJ highschool football being some of the best in the country. Rumson really disappointed me tonight. Everybody works extremely hard to compete each fall weekend and if your lucky you get a shot at 10 games. NFL games might be "meaningless" to players making millions, but in high school you play every game as if it were your last!

see there might have been somebody at that game who really wanted to see how good RFH was and this was probably the first and last chance they had to see them...now they left the game robbed and disappointed of the chance to see them...i know i would've been...you right they should've forfeited.

Rumson needs to drop off the shore top 10 with this performance. Even if they do win the G-1 championship they aren't deserving of any recognition.

I found out who holds the record for most touchdown passes in a season at Toms River North, it's Anthony Penna with 17 the previous record was held by Brian kelchman with 16 he was on the 1991 state championship team for north

I will be able to see Rumson for the first time next weekend when they play the warmup game before Long Branch`s quest for a championship. Maybe the RBC players and parents should take the ride up to Rutgers to watch LB and RFH play,it will be better sitting then sitting home with no more games to play.

ritan rusty and unable to find the strike zone.
In both (the RBC & baseball) they got what they deserved. The coahes should be ashamed and embarassed.

Only half of my comment made it last try. A very embarassing showing. The type of thinking that lost a Shore Conf. Baseball game last spring,RFH vs. Colts neck, The game tied & instead of giving your best pitcher a tune up before facing Raritan in the states you bring in somebody who looses the game because to the coach didn't want his prize pitcher toget the L

I'm all for dropping RFH out of the top 10. They don't deserve to be in there just because they "might" have beaten RBC. RBC has three losses. RFH now has two. But RBC destroyed RFH. Starters or not, 61-0 was the final. Perhaps RBC should replace RFH. And none of the blame for this will or should fall on the players. It's all on the coaches and administration.

A win in the state final against Carteret, a perennial CJ II powerhouse, is far from certain. This silliness against RBC will leave an even worse taste in the players' mouth if they don't beat Carteret (although, for the kids' sake and the sake of the Shore Conference, I hope they win).

As for RBC running up the score - BS. What do you do, tell seniors who are playing their last game to "take it easy" because the other team's coaches and administrators made a horrible decision? Had RFH played their starters, this might have been one of the better games of the season. That's what the RBC kids - who don't have the benefit of playing in a state final but who had a very good season - were looking forward to. Coach Fallon and the RFH administration stole this from them by their silly decision.

As others have noted, this isn't the NFL. Do you think the Asbury Park coaches, administration or players ever thought about sitting their starters against arch-rival Neptune, just because it was a "meaningless" game? Tell that to the kids on either side. I will agree that the playoffs shouldn't start until after the regular season completes. And I have no loyalty to the "traditional" T-day games. But until the NJSIAA changes that format, coaches and administrators owe it to their players to let them play. The only situation in which I would be OK with a coach pulling starters in the final regular season game is if they were destroying the other team..for example, Keansburg v. Mater Dei (Titans pulled most starters after the first half, when they were up 34-0).

Bad decision by the adults in RFH. Not good.

Rumson must not take their rivalry game seriously...this just wasn't a regular game...it was a rivalry game...all i know when it comes to your rival...you try to beat them...especially if your team is capable like Rumson...i know most teams don't want to lose to their rivals espeically in blowout fashion...if RBC was known for injuring players every game then i could see...now they tainted a wonderful season they were having.

Is Wilbur getting offensive player for the week after scoring 6 TDs on RFH's JV?

Re: Wilbur...Absolutely!!!!!

Seriously, I don't make that decision (Steve Falk does) but somehow I doubt it...

Is Mike Wilbur any relation to Biff Wilbur? If yes, I wonder what Biff thinks of his former team denying his relation (son?) of playing in a real final game of the season.

offensive player of the week...against JVs?? You might want to re-think this. He is an outstanding player, but consider the circumstances. Would Tim Tebow from Florida be offensive player of the week if he threw for almost 500 yards against Monmouth University? AP writers wouldn't consider it.

and more Southern.

It's coming back to me now as I get ready for the Eagles to get shelled by New England...

Southern mostly junior team this year so fortunes for 2008 appearing very bright....who's the QB next season?

November 25, 2007 at 4:42 PM

Tony, It should be the JV starter Brian (Sully) Sullivan.
this would be the team reunited, that once upon a time won the South Jersey Middle-School Championship and has lost only three or four games since -(that's w/ out the core varsity junior's that have started varsity last two yrs) It should be very interesting how things shape up w/ Southern next year, but for now-They had their BEST Season!!
as for your Eagles... They looked real good w/ out McNabby-told you he should be traded, should have kept Garcia!!!!
best of luck w/ your picks....
go Cowboys..!!!
