"The Asbury Park Press is the only media organization that will have a reporter at every game this weekend involving a Shore Conference team (just thought I'd toss in that little plug)" Was there a reporter at the Hightstown vs. Ocean game?

LOL @ first poster.

Well, I said it once and I say it again. The Hornets are FOR REAL.

That Haslett kid had some really nice moves out there. about 3-4 times I thought he would be taken out on that 90 yard run. But he just stopped, changed direction, hopped back, and danced in for the TD.

I assume Rumson at Holmdel will get a little more play next week as its 2 shore teams. I anxiously anticipate your guys views on the game.

Southern vs TRN round two. How do you see it Tony? AC was able to shut down TRn's offense whle Southern dominated a tough Washington Twp offense. This game could be a classic.

I think I'm leaning towards Southern...but that is without analyzing the boxscores and reading the game stories from the other papers that cover Atlantic City and Washington Township. It should be a good game either way.

"Rally Round Table Discussion games - Weekend media coverage" was the title thread. No, this was not a playoff game but "every game this weekend involving a Shore Conference team" seems to imply all schools not specifically playoff teams.
Your position is now clear.

Since there was no article on the Manalapan-East Brunswick game, I'll assume the APP either does not consider Manalapan to be in the Shore Conference, or that since it wasn't a playoff game, it wasn't important to either the players or their supporters, or perhaps that the APP does not care about Manalapan residents.

Rematch- TR North vs Southern!!!
Sould be a good game?!
both teams winning, one ugly (against#8) and Suprise-(Southern w/ all around good game against#4)
I see how you are leaning towards TRN Tony, but looks like the two are hitting different strides???
This is Group 4 , right? and your last top ten poll #1vs2
I keep seeing alot of gr-1,2,3 coverage, this is the APP-South Jersey's #1 S. jersey shore coverage- let' see how these two match up by position-and how each did last time two weeks ago.........You gotta believe, Southern is making all kinds of firsts!!!! Southern -Wins /20-17 in upset!!
look the eagles beat the skins..... (Boys up on giANTs) for now!!

Southern's Offense Line was the Best they have been all year!
last time TRN blitzed the tackles (middle-held tough G-C-G) and got through!
w/ time Kaiser had Great passing game opening up the running game.
If they play like that again-it could be trouble for TRN.
What was the reason TRN had problems w/ #8 AC??
Thank G-d we don't have to here from those TR East fans anymore- they really did lose to Southern!!!!

What paper were you reading??

Please look at page H8 in Sunday's Press. There was a small write up on the Manalapan game as there were for some other consolation games.

Thanks...

Re: CJ I..

Below from Home News Tribune Online 11/11/07
.

By WILLIAM DePOE
CORRESPONDENT
FLORENCE — Florence High School football team's reputation and history must intimidate some teams. Afterall, the Flashes have won four straight NJSIAA Central Group I titles, earned a No. 3 seeding in this year's tournament, and were playing in front of a raucous home-field crowd.

Highland Park proved it cannot be intimidated.

Bryant Fitzgerald's 68-yard score and Mike Hrapsky's 83-yard touchdown pass to Nate Smith in the fourth quarter allowed the No. 6-seeded Owls (8-2) to come from behind twice to top Florence, 20-17, in the first round Saturday at Florence.

"We were the only ones who believed we could beat this team," Owls head coach Rich McGlynn said. "During the week, we stressed from Monday on that we're not ready to go home. The more and more we watched tape on them, more and more we believed we could beat them.''

From me (subject to change) Ok....At the moment I think Highland Park defeats K Burg and Asbury Park over S. River.

And AP wins it all in CJ 1. If AP doesn't win, than I hope K Bu does...

Re: Highland Park. I can't overlook a team that wins at Florence. K Burg playing well but I have to think the loss of Justin Laguna has to catch up with K Burg eventually.....

A Park wins in a shootout over S. River..Bishops have lots of fire power....

man i hope asbury do win...it's been a long time...that town and those kids need and deserve a championship...the only way i see them losing is if they beat themselves.

Tony,
As Good as you are at picking... I just can not see how you have Long Branch rated over Southern or Howell?? even SPChrist is going w/ Southern??? Top Ten- what about Eastern?-anything to them being the #2 in the playoffs brackets?
let's focus now!!!

well long branch has dominated in every game except for the wall game in which they were inches short of being undefeated right now. I hope they make it to the finals and have a showdown with MS because that game is like a yankee-red sox rivalry and i think this is the year long branch beats them to return to glory.

Here's what I found from the Ledger's 2007 preview...since we don't cover that team

HIGHLAND PARK

Offense: Junior RB Bryant Fitzgerald could be taking Highland Park on some thrilling rides this season. He gained more than 1,000 yards and scored 11 times in only six games. Another key figure in the multiple-I attack is senior FB Davon Harrison, who gained over 400 yards as a junior and had distinguished himself as a reliable blocker for Fitzgerald. Rogilia Rojas and Trevor Roberts have veteran status up front. Senior Mike Hapsky is back at QB.

Defense: There is excellent team speed and also important experience at vital spots. Senior James Boyd, with over 240 career tackles, is back for this third starting season at LB. Harrison joins him at LB, along with surprising sophomore OLBs Nate Smith and Lashawn Parkey. Rojas is a standout at DE.

Etc.: Rich McGlynn becomes just Highland Park's second coach in 30 years. Joe Policastro retired last year after guiding that young squad to a 6-4 mark.

Here's what I found from the Ledger's 2007 preview...since we don't cover that team

Offense: The most established RB from the Blue Division is 5-11 senior Jarvis Crandell, who dashed for 1,523 yards and scored 18 TDs last year for 8-4 South River. He was outstanding in the latter part of the season as his team reached the Central Jersey, Group 1 final before falling, 17-6, to Florence. Crandell has hard-working FB Matt DeZarlo to lead his way, as well as returning linemen Dan Litz, Lee Biernicki and Ray Fodor.

Defense: South River should be strong on both sides in the trenches. Litz (5-11, 285), off the ball in a hurry and very strong, racked up 83 tackles last year at DT. Mike Muccino and Fodor also have plenty of experience at harassing QBs. South River has a terrific DB in Eric Seawright, who had seven interceptions last season.

Etc.: South River's battle-tested defensive line should help DeZarlo (6-0, 215) get even more clean looks at opposing runners than last year from his MLB position. That's a frightening thought considering he recorded 123 tackles as a junior.

Rumson vs. Holmdel will be previwed in the Press, be discussed on Rally Round Table and will be the RALLYCAST Game of the Week!!! HOW??
As an avid APP reader, by your own published TOP-10 this week (TRN#1 & Southern #4) and the last one printed before the playoffs TRN#1 & Southern#2- How could these two teams not be the GAME of the Week?
Is it that the rematch won't live up to it's potential?
Quote "match up of probably the best two linebackers in HS football" (three weeks ago)
please explain your (or the gangs) thoughts....... signed; Confussed???

Dear confused. First of all, Southern vs. TRN will be discussed on Round Table (you thought it wouldn't?), be the lead game in the Friday preview....plus we are doing a feature on the game in the Press this Week.

As far as RALLYCAST - it was my vote to pick Rumson - Holmdel, as we had already done Southern-TRN on RallyCast just a few weeks ago and I didn't want to video the same match up again so soon.

I felt it was time to show a little love to the smaller schools and to a game that - potentially - matches up competitively, certainly as well as TRN-S Reg.

The big guys can't get all the attention all the time - is my view.

There was a debate on this - and eventually the boss opted for a game that hadn't been played yet this season as opposed to a game that was.

This is not to say TRN - SReg. Round Two may not have a different outcome in many respects or even be a better game.

Also - S Reg vs. TRN is on live radio I believe (WOBM)

I guess we'll all find out Friday night.

Tony,
How many of these playoff HS football players are student athletes (Honor Roll)? and are we showing younger players/athletes that school is still the first priority!
It would be nice to see how many of these boys are doing well in both.

Does the APP do this for Juniors and Seniors?
If not, they should consider it. They could use a combination of GPA abd PSATs.

Re: honor roll. Certainly a noble thought but I don't know what the Press does along those lines.

I know we have a sportsmanship page every year....

Your best bet is to contact scholastic sports editor Mike Herrmann at herrmann@app.com.

Thanks..

Well, I won't miss Holmdel-Rum Friday night because I will be there...but TRN vs. Southern Round Two also very worthy..

Here's a very good game in my opinion - I think if you like lots of scoring - Howell vs. Montgomery.. both teams offer the run and shoot, 50-42 anyone??

Also S. River at A Park...the traditional power from Middlesex County vs. the rising star that is the Blue Bishops... Can it continue to rise??
