consolation game pairings? wouldn't there be more area teams playing in the consolation round than in the states, and, if so, shouldn't your coverage reflect that interest>>>>

Re: consolation pairings.

They are not announced by the NJSIAA - which determines them - until MONDAY - and we will publish them Tuesday.

They will also be on the net at www.njsiaa.org.

Also...we have found outside of parents and immediate friends, families, of players, there is little or no interest in these games...

We do not staff consolation games for this reason, and also because we bairly have enough people to cover the regular season and playoff games.

It is UP TO THE COACHES to call in their results of consolation games, win or lose.

If they do not call them in , though we will track down the scores - stories on those particular games not phoned in by the coaches - will not run in the Press.

That is our policy.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Mr. Graham--thank you for your honest response. As you surmised, my question was really designed to question the APP's policy of covering only the State football playoffs and ignoring the many athletes who participate on teams relegated to the consolation round. Yes, only family, friends are interested, but that generally also holds true for the playoff teams. It is possible for "...parents,immediate friends, and families..." of consolation teams in this area to actually outnumber the same categories of the playoff teams (some of whose teams come from outside the reading area of the APP), thus a greater number of area readers would be denied the opportunity to share an accounting of their favorate team simply because they were unable to acquire
more power points than teams from outside your readership area. Doesn't make sense to me. Seems to me coverage should be determined by whether or not the teams involved are from the area, not merely whether or not they are in the playoffs. Thank you for your time and willingness to respond.

Ideally, it would be nice to pay more attention to the consolation games.

Physically, logistically, and space wise in the paper, it's virtually impossible.

If you want more coverage, make the playoffs. What you don't realize is that the local consolation teams will be playing teams from all over the state that most local people could care less about. Lets be honest who cares about two two win teams in the consolations.
