THE SKINNY
TR North swept the regular season series from TR East for the first time since 2000.
TRE and TRN have never met in the championship game of the tournament that dates back to 1972. The only time in recent years they have met in the tournament was in 2005 when Toms River East won 10-3 in the semifinals.
Toms River East is seeking its eighth OCT title, all since 1995. Its seven OCT titles is second to Toms River South's nine.
The Raiders have won the OCT the last two years and the last three times they have participated in the tournament.
The Toms River Regional schools did not enter the tournament in 2004.
Toms River East has won 14 straight OCT games, dating back to a 5-4 loss to Brick and current Rutgers University senior right-hander Steve Healing in the 2002 OCT semifinals. Ryan Doherty was the Toms River East pitcher that day.
Toms River East is 7-3 in OCT championship games, 7-1 since 1995. It has won three championship games, 1-0, and four by one run.
Toms River North is in its first OCT final since 2002, when it defeated Brick, 6-2, at FirstEnergy Park.
The Mariners are seeking their third OCT title (1987 was the other) and are 2-7 in OCT finals. They lost in their first seven appearances in the final before winning in 1987.

NOTE - since the game is on radio I probably will not update after every batter as I did Monday night, but plan to update at least every inning.
