Junior right-hander Paul Alvear (2-0) went 5.1 innings and visiting Jackson (18-6), No. 10 in the Press Top 10 Poll, scored four runs in the third inning to defeat Elizabeth (18-5) Sunday afternoon, 5-1.
Cory Carr and Eddie Giddings, catching for Bill Lee who had the day off, had two-run doubles in the third inning.
Jackson launches its bid in Central Jerey Group IV Monday afternoon when it hosts Sayreville. Jackson is seeded third in CJ IV and Sayreville 14th.
Jackson visits TR`South Wednesday in a Shore Conference Tournament first round game.
