Weinkofsky to play at Brookdale Community College/Jersey Blues land the Tuna

Ocean Township High School slugger Keith Weinkofsky said Wednesday he will continue his baseball career at Brookdale Community College.
Weinkofsky slugged his Shore Conference career leading 30th home run Wednesday vs. Wall in a 2-0 Shore Conference Tournament quarterfinal victory,
Weinkofsky had signed a national letter of intent last fall with the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
""It's (Brookdale) closer to home, good baseball, and I like the coaches and players there,'' said Weinkofsky.
''I think it's great fit for him and us,'' said Johnny Johnson, Brookdale coach.
""He comes in as one of the best players in the state and it opens up more avenues for him in regards to the (Major League) draft and also to big time programs.''
Johnson said Weinkofsky, who has been mentioned as a draft possibility next week by big league scouts, would be eligible for the draft after each of his junior college seasons or could go on to a four-year school.
Weinkofsky's father, Chuck, played at Brookdale as did his sister, Allyson, who played on a Brookdale national championship softball team.
Brookdale finished 36-12 and took fourth place in the 2007 Division III Junior College National Tournament.
