THURSDAY ROUNDUP

STAFF REPORT
A matchup that most scholastic baseball observers have been waiting to see all season could come to fruition Friday at the Shore Christian Academy, Wall.
John McGrath went 3-for-3 with three RBI, Mike Kyle went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored and junior right-hander Vin Vinci pitched a complete-game five-hitter as the St. Rose baseball team defeated Manasquan, 13-3, Thursday in a Monmouth County Tournament first-round game at the Shore Christian Academy.
The Purple Roses (18-1), the No. 3 seed in the MCT, will host No. 6 seed Ocean (17-4) today at 3:45 p.m., weather permitting, in a MCT quarterfinal-round game.
That could result in a matchup of St. Rose's Louisiana State University-bound right-hander Anthony Ranaudo pitching to Spartans' slugging senior catcher Keith Weinkofsky, who is one home run away from tying 1994 Jackson graduate and current Jackson assistant coach Marc Fink's Shore Conference career home run record of 27.
St. Rose coach Bart McInerney said he was undecided who he was going to pitch today because Ranaudo did pitch four innings Wednesday when the Manasquan game was rained out, with the Purple Roses leading 2-0 in the top of the fifth.
rdup RB CATHOLIC 6, MIDD. NORTH 2: George Stipisich and Kyle O'Neill socked back-to-back home runs in the second inning and Nick Romano went 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the fourth as the 14th-seeded Caseys (14-9) defeated the 19th-seeded Lions (11-12) in a Shore Conference Tournament first-round game.
Red Bank Catholic will play at No. 3 seed St. Rose in the Round of 16.
rdup RUMSON 12, NEPTUNE 3: Ben Miller picked up his eighth win of the season and went 2-for-2 with three RBI as the No. 9 seeded Bulldogs (15-4) scored all their runs in the first three innings and defeated the No. 24-seeded Scarlet Fliers (11-11) in a SCT first-round game.
Rumson will play the winner of today's scheduled game between No. 8 seed Colts Neck and No. 25 seed Point Pleasant Beach in the Round of 16.

Under the category--ridiculous or something needs to be done: rumor has it that no Freehold Regional H.S. baseball team will enter either the frosh nor JV tournaments this Spring due to the same excuse used when all Freehold Regional baseball teams couldn't enter the Monmouth County Tournament--no bus drivers. This is inexcusable and should be exposed and investigated --how can other Districts find drivers but not the Freehold Regional System? The Transportation Director needs to explain this depravation of boys baseball teams.
