Another Slate gem, CBA ace goes to 11-0
`CBA ace Kyle Slate muzzled heavy hitting Camden Catholic 5-1 Friday in an NJSIAA South Jersey Non-Public A semifinal game.
""We knew they could hit, they hit 54 home runs this year,'' said CBA coach Marty Kenny.
But Slate, who according to big league scouts has a shot to be taken in next week's First-Year Player Draft, scattered five hits, struck out 10, and walked two to improve to 11-0.
""He was keeping them off balance as he usally does to teams,'' said Kenney. ""You could tell they were a fastball hitting team. That's what they wanted.
""So Kyle spotted his fatsball and mixed in a split finger and his change up.''
Steve McSherry singled home Marc Sansevere in the first inning for CBA and Sansevere and Slate had RBI singles in a three-run second inning.
Scott Micallef lofted a sacrfice fly in the third.
Slate yielded just his third earned run of the season in the top of the third inning.
CBA (23-4) will play St. Joseph's Metuchen (16-12) 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mercer County Park looking for its sixth sectional title.
Kenney said senior right-hander Dave Laufer (6-2) will start for CBA 2:30 p.m. Saturday when the Colts host St. John Vianney in a Shore Conference Tournament semifinal.
CBA is also scheduled to face Wall 3:45 p.m. Monday at Monmouth Regional in the Monmouth County Tournament championship game.

Probable pitchers for the Ocean Colts Neck matchup tomorrow?
CBA marches on! Can the '07 team do what the '77 team did?
In the North...Immaculata beat Roselle Catholic 10-0 and Seton Hall beat Don Bosco 9-8. Immaculata v SHP in the final on 6/5. Apparently SHP's ace Porcello(?) had less than good stuff and was shelled.
Ocean - undecided, . but they might start with Parenty..just a hunch.
I think Ethan Jackson (6-1) goes for C Neck but have not talked with the coach.
Hats off to Slate on an excellent pitching performance against a potent Camden Catholic offense.
CC Junior pitcher Chris Dondarski should also be commended on his effort, 5 hits & only 2 earned runs. Several costly errors allowing 3 unearned runs, including the opening batter of the game which was all Slate needed!
