again, although i am biased, there is no other progam that had as such a turnaround as Holmdel w/ thepossible excepton of southern. The last team that made ot this far was in 1991. plus 2 years ago the all the coaches quit under questionable circumstances. This is not a school known for football. it is not easy to get kids t come out. Coach is a miracle worker in my opinion

Lou Vircillo is the MAN! We all just adore him (even on bad play calls) for what he means to & does for our children. The football team is honestly part of his family.

i believe asbury park coach should get it...what he did this season with those kids...he deserves it...coaching in asbury is so much harder then anywhere else in the shore because there's so many distractions those kids have to deal with...and he got those kids to believe and never give up...don't be surprise if he turn asbury into a powerhouse...if he can keep those kids focus and out of trouble watch out...asbury has alot of talent coming up from their great pop warner program...coach sofilkanich brought an offense that fitted those kids strength's and having them play at a high level like asbury suppose too...coach sofilkanich coach of the year...that's my opinion but there are other deserving coaches too...app has a tough decision to make.

Long Branch playing all it's games on the road and having a great season, very impressive. Southern and Holmdel, bringing thier programs up from the depths, Asbury Park playing great under tough conditions, this is a very hard choice to make.

It is really a hard choice. Lacy, I just cannot see because that is known as a football school. Asbury Park and Southern definately. Southern over Asbury though because Asbury at least has some history of winning, even if it was about 13 years ago when Ron Lewis was cutting up the turf. That team was scary good. Plus they are one of the only teams with an actual "stadium". This is a tough decision this year becasue of all of the nice stories.

It is good to see a little diversity in Shore football instead of South South South South South all of the time.

asbury also had a good team in 1998 with marc hall, derico bridges and company...that was one of the best all around teams i seen...from offense to defense and special teams...but they had them inelegible problems and that kept that team from really shining...but they still beat neptune without those inelegible players and neptune was like #1 in the shore at that time...you are 100% right...it comes down to asbury, southern, and holmdel.

I wish they could split it between Solfikanich and Carlstrom.

Asbury has alot of talent, no one can deny that, but they had alot of off field problems, and alot of talent without coaching is a 5-5 team, alot of talent with good coaching is a state playoff perhaps championship team.

Carlstrom walked into a Hornets nest, no pun intended. He took over a program with only a handful of winning seasons in the last decade, and a team not known for football in a town that could care less, and has them undefeated, is 14-5 since he got there, the town is into it, the school is into it, and without one kid anyone could name around the shore other than Haslett, has built a big time winner. As a parent I am SO proud of Coach Carlstrom and his staff.

Vircillo can pull football out of anyone. That is what a great coach does. Yes, Lacey IS a football school, but, there have been years at Lacey where there wasn't alot of talent and they still did ok. They have a good group of players coming up also as the freshman team this year went undefeated.

RE: RALLY ROUND TABLE. Adalezzi said carson was not 100 %, thats a Crock, if he was not 100% he would not have played against midd. North. The bottom line is that southern could have won their first conference championship in 30 years, at home, on senior nite and they could not get it done. Carson played his tail off and he was 100%. Adalezzi has been picking against north all year because he can't stand the fact that they are the best team in TR.

Re: the poll.

As of mid day Thursday the battle rages between Carlstrom and Vircillo.

I thought Sofilkanich (A Park) would get a little more support than he has thus far..

Agreed. Remember, it was but 2 1/2 years ago that the entire coaching staff quit MID-SEASON!!! The schools athletic trainer had to coach the team in their remaining games. The last time they had 9 wins was in 1991 when their only 2 losses were to Manasquan. One in the season and one in the Group II state finals.

Carlstrom has done an amazing job in only 2 years. It remains to be seen if it lasts, but it is a step in the right direction. Remember, Skip Edwards coached a Holmdel team to 9-2, but the next year, they were 1-6-2. Lets hope that this is a sign of things to come, not a flash in the pan.

WHATABOUT CHUCK DONAHOE??
THE TURN AROUND YEAR-THE PLAYOFFS,
THE FACT THAT THEY ARE STILL IN IT...
PLAYING AGAINST THE FIRST PLACE TEAM?
WHAT WAS SOUTHERNS RECORD LAST YEAR?
WHAT WAS THE PRIDICTIONS OF THE RALLY CAST -TABLE BOYS? BEFORE THIS SEASON?
WHO IS THE BEST TEAM STORY/
THAT WOULD BE BECAUSE OF WHO?
RIGHT-THE COACH!!!! & PLAYERS....
TO BAD RALLY ROUND TABLE- Adalezzi ISN'T MAKING THE CHOICE -HE'S THE ONLY ONE WHO PICKED SOUTHERN!!!
AND HE LIKES GLENN CARSON.....
I THINK THE WINNER OF THE TRNVS SOUTHERN SHOULD BE THE COACH OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!! BUT I DON'T VOTE!

To last poster: Re Donohue. He remains a viable candidate certainly as we speak (as an Eagles fan he gets my vote!)

But I don't vote either!!

Please.. we are talking about coaches and football teams-not the sad eagles!!! w/ your influence (being a writer and all) you should push for Mcnabb to go to Minn Or Chicago- make a trade for brady Quinn??
back to HS football -I'm glad that he (Chuch D) still has a Shot-even if he likes the EEGles too!

I have to agree...Carson not 100% is a crock! Adelezzi think a little before posting. Why could coach Donohue put in his stud linebacker against a Middletown North team who has two wins on the season, and when he competes for the divisional crown the next week, if his stud middle linebacker wasn't 100%? Not only that, Carson carried the ball quite a lot. Unhealthy backs don't carry the ball. C'mon Joe, lets think a little. You're trying to set up an excuse for Southern losing...and your a South guy.
