GAME REPORTS
The Jackson Memorial High School baseball team seems intent on staying in the hunt for the Shore Conference Class A South championship.
After spotting No. 3 Toms River East a two-run lead Wednesday the Jaguars (6-2, 4-2) roared back with five runs in the fifth inning for a 7-4 win over the Raiders (3-3, 3-3).
Don Murphy capped the rally with a two-run double after RBI singles Cory Carr and Bill Lee. With the outcome Jackson took over second place in the division.
""We had left runner in scoring position early in the ball game and in that inning strung togehter four big hits,'' said Marc Fink, Jackson assistant coach. ""It just seemed like we were on the cusp of the big inning but they had done a good job of stopping us.''
Brady Doyle and Pete Dacenko hit solo home runs for TR East which took 3-1 lead into the top of the fifth inning.
Joe Marchitelli allowed one run over the last two innings to gain the victory in relief.
Ivan Cartegna went 2-for-4 for Jackson and lead-off batter Chris Wedding had three hits and a run scored for TR East.
BARNEGAT 5, PINELANDS 2:The second-year Bengals (7-1, 4-1) extended their winning streak to seven games and set up Friday's Shore Conference Class B South first place showdown with Manchester with a victory over the Wildcats (2-5, 1-4).
Brian Calabri had two RBI, Erik Smithman two hits and an RBI, and junior left-hander David Gomez threw four innings of shutout relief for the victory.
MANASQUAN 3, HOLMDEL 2:An infield hit by Alex Otchy delivered the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning enabling the Warriors (3-2, 2-3) to defeat the Hornets (3-2, 3-1) in a Class A Central game. Tom Phillips had three hits including a double for Manasquan.
FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP 9, MANALAPAN 0 - John Whitley struck out five and allowed two hits over five innings as the Patriots (4-3, 3-2) blanked the Braves (5-3, 2-3) in Class A North.
Brian Cooney went 3-for-4 with an RBI and stole two bases and Dave Banach and and Chris Gheraldi each slugged their first varsity home runs with Gheraldi belting a two-run shot in the second inning for a 2-0 lead.
Matt Porricelli walked twice and added an RBI single.
MIDDLETOWN SOUTH 19, KEANSBURG 0:Sophomore Mike Farrell drove in seven runs as he homered with two on in his first two at bats in a 13-run first inning as the Eagles (1-6) defeated the Titans (3-3) in the opening round of the Monmouth County Tournament.
Farrell also had an RBI single in his next at bat in a six-run second inning and also scored three runs in the game.
Eric Dunn added two hits including a triple and scored three runs.
Junior right-hander Tyler Black pitched three innings allowing three hits for his first varsity win.
MONSIGNOR DONOVAN 10, LAKEWOOD 1: Red-hot senior shortstop Paul Rosario slugged a three-run home run in the second inning and led off the fourth with his second of the game as the Griffins (4-3, 4-2) downed the Piners (1-4, 1-3) in a Class B South game.
Ken Ouimet went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run for Donovan and Pat Henderson went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Mike Muth doubled home Lakewood's run and losing pitcher Charles Cunliffe struck out seven in five innings.
Winning pitcher Andy Gannon, struck out one, the last batter of the game and walked one, the previous batter.

Toms River East lost to Jackson, which would make it their third conference loss in a row (North twice, and now Jackson) When was the last time East has done that? Yesterday's loss really hurts puts the consecutive A-South titles in jeopardy... now two games behind TRN, a game behind Jackson and 1/2 game behind TRS. Jackson has another huge game today vs Toms River South, and TRS backs that up with a huge game against TRN on Friday. I think we will have a clearer picture by the end of this week
