Rebels with a cause - Howell shocks No. 1 CBA
A Howell of a surprise

This time the Howell High School baseball team closed the deal.
When Brian Battaglia got a fly ball to center in the top of the seventh with a runner on first, the Rebels had a stunning 8-6 win over Christian Brothers Academy, ranked No. 1 in the Asbury Park Press Top 10.
""We had been in this situation before,'' said Howell coach Bill Gallacher. ""We had come close to beating CBA three or four times over the years and they always came back to beat us. The last time we played them (last year), we were up a run and they came back and beat us.
""I think that was playing in the minds of our kids. To get this monkey off our back is nice.''
According to Gallacher, it was the first time during his six seasons as the Rebels coach that Howell had defeated CBA.
However, the Colts (3-1, 3-1) did put a scare into the Rebels (2-2, 2-2) in the seventh. Mike Galeotafiore, who had three homers in a game against Howell last year, greeted reliever Brian Battaglia by leading off with a home run.
""When the kid (Galeotafiore) homers, you couldn't help but think, "Here we go again,' '' Gallacher said. ""But, you have to keep thinking, "We're going to get this done'. I didn't see the kids hang their head. Brian bore down and threw strikes.
Battaglia got the next two batters out before an error put a runner on first and brough the tying run to the plate. However, Battaglia got the aforementioned fly out to end the game.
""Brian getting the next two batters after the homer was huge,'' Gallacher said.
Battaglia relieved senior right-hander Frank Ozello, who pitched three innings of one-hit relief with five strikeouts to pick up his first win of the season.
Howell had two big innings. It scored five times in the first as Tim Lamirande and Casey Brannigan each stroked two-run singles. The Rebels scored three more in the fifth as Brannigan and Battaglia delivered RBI singles, with the third run scoring on an error on Battaglia's single.

This throws the A North race wide open....who will win? CBA, Midd. North, F. Twp? Who?
Has a Shore Conference team ever gone undefeated? I know the Toms River East team a few years ago came pretty close, but I never heard of an undefeated team from the Shore... Just curious
That's a very good question and I don't know of one, or have ever heard of one dating back at least into the 60's...
