Raritan rockets past Rumson in NJSIAAs 14-3

Rumson vs. Raritan

Steve Falk reports Raritan has defeated host Rumson 14-3.

Raritan scored four runs off Rumson ace Ben Miller in the top of the first inning and added three more in the third and fourth innings and pulled away in the NJSIAA Central Jersey 2 quarterfinal.

Pitcher Marc Zecchino slugged a 3-run HR in the first inning and Tom Evanchko an RBI double for Raritan which dropped both regular season games to Rumson's Class A Central Public champions.

A Dave Shrum three-run shot made it 7-0 in the third inning. Zecchino and Evanchko added RBI singles in the fourth and Chris Clayton an RBI double.

Surging Raritan (16-8), which has won seven in a row and eight of nine, will visit No. 1 seed CBA (19-4) 11 a.m. Saturday in a Round of 16 Shore Conference Tournament game. Raritan was seeded 18th.
