GAME REPORTS
Caseys jar Ranaudo, St. Rose

Red Bank Catholic didn't figure to do much scoring Monday against St. Rose ace Anthony Ranaudo in the first round of the Shore Conference Tournament.
"'We were, of course, expecting to win by maybe scratching out a run here or there,'' said RBC coach Tony Martinez. ""Maybe squeeze in a run.''
But RBC (15-9) did more than that.
It got a two-run double and a two-run home run from junior Kyle O'Neill and the 14th-seeded Caseys (15-8) jolted the third-seeded Purple Roses, 6-2.
O'Neill hit a two-run double in the third inning that made it 2-1 and his two-run home run in the fifth made it 5-2.
""Kyle has kind of waited for the right time to start performing,'' said Martinez. ""He missed three games with high ankle sprain and it took him a little while to feel comfortable.
""He was our four hitter and we dropped him to eight, and lately we moved him up to sixth.''
O'Neill went 3-for-4 Monday.
Ranaudo, who has signed with LSU, fell to 5-1 suffering just the third loss of his varsity career.
The 6-7 right-hander was charged with six runs, four earned, struck out four, walked three, and hit a batter in five innings.
""We had some success today in fast ball counts,'' said Martinez. ""Our hitters had a lot of confidence today.
""You definitely want to build on this win. It's good to know you can have success against a dominating pitcher.''
Senior J.C. Menna took over on the mound for RBC in the fourth inning. He struck out six and walked two, allowed two hits, and one unearned run to improve to 4-2.
'' I tip my hat to RBC, they played very well today,'' said Bart McInerney, coach of St Rose (19-2).
""They deserved to win the game today.''
RBC moves into the quarter final round vs. the winner of Wednesday night's game between 11th-seeded St. John Vianney and No. 6 Toms River East.

once again small ball falls. I prefer Teddy Roosevelt ball- speak softly and carry a big stick
All that screaming and 2 runs a game if you're lucky. Its the end of an era, time for real coaches to step up andstop the unneccessary screaming and hit the ball. I'm not saying you shouldn't play defense and have great pitching but you got to score runs. Better luck next year Barnegat and East

Wow, St Rose out of the SCT in the early round... even with Ranadulo pitching.

Great comeback by TRS this afternoon, down 2-0 in the bottom of the 6th. Gray leads off with a double and scores on a bang bang play at the plate on a infield single, making it 2-1.

Talerico made a comment before his final at bat. "Somebody get on base so I can win this game for us" Comes to the plate and blasts a monster HR onto the second roof of the TRS gym.

Tough decision for offensive player of the year ... Talerico, Tuna, and the Laufers all having outstanding seasons... and you cant leave out Biserta despite the disappointing season Boro had this year.

Two things that strike me here as Renaudo loses to RBC..1st St Rose CAN NOT win in the lime light cause the AD / Coach refuses to play a bigger schedule and let a few losses allow his team to GET BETTER and...
I was at the
Ocean-- St.Mary's game today hoping for a Tuna lift-off BUT got what I expected : a bases loaded walk and bases loaded single for another Ocean Win...these coaches just keep out coaching themselves !!! Hey thats what makes it HS baseball..Joe Torre's job is VERY safe these days !!!!

That's why they are coaches, they just don't have the correct management skills. A lot of coaches in Ocean County have let talented kids waste away on their benches because they didn't fit their mold. The most ridiculous thing I ever heard a coach try to teach his players was to hit the top of the ball and hit a grounder and let the other team make a mistake. Anyone who knows anything about hitting wants you to hit the ball in the middle and line it up the middle or hit it into the gap. That's how you score runs and win games, not by counting on the other team to make mistakes.
The Toms River system is lucky because they have a great feeder system with lots of volunteers who know what they are doing and great facilities. But the new programs at both Jackson Liberty and Barnegat cannot rely on the teachings of former coaches to bring them to the next level. With the correct management, both schools will create real programs, but without it, I guarantee both coaches will hit the 100 loss mark before they get close to 100 wins.

The Toms River schools are "lucky." ??? Are you serious??

I wish I had their kind of luck.

I'll guarantee you Tom Sutaris at Barnegat and Jim Rankin at Jackson Liberty will get to 100 wins before 100 losses.

Check out the JV and freshman level at Barnegat before you guarantee. A combined +or- 7 and 30 or thereabouts. So even if they win 20 next year, theres a lot of losing coming up.

I couldnt agree with you more Tony. Sutaris is building a program over there at Barnegat. Rankin will do the same at Jackson Liberty... no doubt that they will both be very successful.

Sutaris and Rankin will build programs like TRS, players from all grade levels and put together a winning team, look at TRS this year, only two everyday Seniors, and Sophs and Juniors, and 19 wins.

I agree with Tony on this one. Sutaris gets the Bengals to 100 wins before 100 losses. At 25-19 right now for the past two seasons, if you're going to give them 20 wins next season, that's a big losing streak afterward and I don't see a Sutaris team going through a prolonged losing binge.
