TR North wins second A South in three years

Junior Scott Shan drove in three runs, catcher C.J. Alonso went 3-for-4, and Anthony Scorsone pitched a six-hitter over six innings as No. 1 Toms River North (13-2, 11-1) defeated Brick (5-8-1, 5-7) Friday night, 11-1, to clinch its second Shore Conference Class A South crown in three years.
It marked its first outright division title since 1991. It shared the title with TR East in 2005.
Scorsone, a senior left-hander, struck out eight for his third win in his first varsity start.
""I knew we had some quality pitching and some great kids coming back,'' said TR North coach Ted Schlmay whose team has won 12 of its last 13 games.

""It's an unselfish group of baseball players who have connected with positive and up beat chemistry,'' said Schelmay.

Shan belted a two-run triple in the sixth inning and an RBI single in the fourth.
John Vitale had an RBI double for Brick.
