Monmouth wins, 11-6/Blog Baseball/Senior All-star game

Coaches are Frank Malta (Jackson) for Ocean and Del Dal Pra (Ocean Twp.) for Monmouth and many assistants on either side.

Monmouth 0 0 4 0 3 0 4 0 0 - 11 10 2
Ocean 1 0 0 0 0 0 4 0 1 - 6 9 2

Never mind the soreboard here says the final was 10-6. Somehow the scoreboard folks here missed a run in Monmouth's four-run seventh.

Monmouth top first facing Chad Geran (TR North): I'll do this inning, or half inning by inning. Monmouth is the visiting team. Marc Zecchino (Raritan) led off with a single to left but Monmouth's next three hitters were retired.

Ocean bottom first facing Kyle Norman ( Ocean Twp): Joe Somma (TR East) scored on an error before a 1-2-3 double play ball with the bases loaded ended the inning.

Monmouth top second facing Ryan Casey (Manchester): Joe Locasio (Howell) walked but Monmouth did not score. In the inning Keith Weinkofsky lined to center.

Ocean bottom second facing Ben Miller (Rumson): Allen Robinson (Manchester) and Mike Mitton (Lacey) walked with two outs before Miller got a strikeout to end the threat.

Monmouth top third facing Sean Stimpfel (Jackson): Dom Hayes (Colts Neck) singled to center to begin the inning. James O'Hanlon (Keansburg) lined a two-run single to right center with the bases loaded. Jim Laufer (CBA) lined a two-run single to center. Inning ended on a 4-6-3 double play.

Ocean bottom third facing Eric Hinkle (Ocean Twp.): Ocean went out 1-2-3 including Pat Biserta (P.Boro) lining to center on a diving catch by Dom Hayes. Biserta has an Ocean hit, a bloop single to left in the first inning.

Monmouth top fourth facing Mark Potter (TR South): Potter sets Monmouth down 1-2-3 including a fly to deep right by Weinkofsky.

Ocean bottom fourth facing Bill Cerruti (Shore): Frank DeHart (TR East) doubled with two outs but Pete Dacenko (TR East) lined out.

Monmouth top fifth facing Carl Stockert (Jackson): Hayes doubled to left. A hit batter (Andrew Otterberg of Wall) and an error on a ball hit by Kevin Mager (Midd. North) loaded the bases with none out. Adam Helfgott (Marlboro) knocked in Hayes with an infield out to third, Pat Gaughran (Monmouth Reg.) hit a sac fly to right, Matt Logan (Wall) opposite field RBI single to left. Monmouth leads, 7-1.

Ocean batting bottom fifth facing Anthony Ranaudo (St. Rose): Ranaudo got a K, walked two, and then got the last two outs on a line shot to right and a soft line out.

Monmouth batting top sixth facing Anthony Scorsone (TR North): Scorsone allowed two base runners but retired the side without damage.

Ocean batting bottom sixth facing Craig Hughes (Wall): Anthony Mazzetta (TR North) singled to left. Mark Perry (TR South) walked. But a sac bunt and two Ks ended the inning.

Monmouth batting top seventh inning facing Joe Marchitelli (Jackson): Dave Laufer (CBA) RBI single. Mike Galeotafiore (CBA) three-run triple to deep right, Monmouth leads, 11-1.

Ocean batting bottom seventh facing Paul Bacigalupi (SJ Vianney): Ryan Casey (Manchester) infield RBI single. Brady Doyle (TR East) RBI double. Casey scored on wild pitch. Mazzetta (TRN) hit sac fly. Inning ends with a K. Monmouth leads 11-5.

Well....some how we deleted an inning. Anyway..No one scored in the eighth. Kyle Slate (CBA) pitched a scorless eighth for Monmouth yielding a two-out double to Pete Dacenko (TR East). And John Lightbody (TREast) pitched a scoreless top ninth for Ocean.

Ocean batting bottom ninth facing Devin Cousins (Long Branch): Chad Geran (TR North) doubled but was stranded. ( Joe Brescia of Holmdel pitching for Monmouth with two away in the ninth). Doyle safe at second on error on liner to right, run scores. Ground out, game over.

Phillies fan that I am I told him to please sign tonight so that he could pitch this weekend...

Seriously..don't think there were any scouts there to watch him pitch his one uneventul inning.

Before the game he told me he will talk more with the Phillies, but definitely appears to be leaning towards college.

That would seem to be his best bet and make the most sense for him (sigh).
