Ryan Kalish/Todd Frazier

Just for the sake of conversation...what player has the more productive professional career???

Any thoughts??

Come on Tony!!!
How can you compare the two players at this point. Ryan has been playing professional ball for a year and half, while Todd has only played 4 professional games. If you want compare Ryan to Jeff Frazier, its another story.
Last I checked Ryan was doing very well, batting over .370 with a couple of homeruns and almost 20 stolen bases. Todd is still adjusting to the game, but it probably wont be much longer until he finds his groove out their in Billings.

I was not comparing any one..just asking who folks think might have the more productive pro career..sheer speculation..but why not?

(Please see prior post for latest Kalish stats)

True, Ryan has a jump on Todd on in organized pro ball..but Todd certainly has more post high school upper level experience having played at RU where he gained moocho national acclaim ...

"TUNA" and he's hasn't played a "PRO" game yet...just ask the scouts and cross checkers that were in LI a couple weeks ago..holy *&^%$#$# can that kid hit !!!..until he signs I have to go with Frazier...21, polished...just a more professional player at this point than Ryan K. !!! Hope they all make it **&&^^%%

Consider this...they are both playing at the same professional level right now. Short Season A.

Ryan is highly regarded in the Sox system, but I think it was expected he would start at LoA this year. I was in Lowell on business last week and caught the game Wed night against Batavia and he was picked off twice. I think those are the mental aspects of the game that are holding him back right now. The kid certainly plays a great CF and can get on base though.

Todd is a different player with very high expectations. All American, Cape Cod top prospect, Team USA, etc. Not to mention the history of winning and blood lines. Kalish had a ride to UVa and was drafted in the 7th (?), but it doesn't compare. Despite the difference in pro experience right now you'd have to give the nod to Todd. But obviously it is VERY early to judge....

Last poster. Nice job, valid points. Always good to hear from people who see these players in action.

Now....we just need someone to take a trip to Billings, Montana!!!

Pay my way Tony and I'll go. Montana is a beautiful state. I'll catch Todd's game and get some fly fishing done as well :-)

Looks like Kalish hit a pair of HRs in a game over the weekend. The debate will rage on....

Thanks for the kind words Tony, as a former player at the shore and long time reader (won't make you feel dated) it is much appreciated.

I think we're better off waiting until Todd gets bumped up to Dayton, OH or Sarasota, FL before we start sending field men to Billings!

gimme a break, tuna?, he is a good high school hitter, when or if he gets into the pros, he wont have nearly as much success as he did in high school, its a little different competition

Re: Montana. On second thought, can I go?

Back in the late '80's Ocean had a kid, Tim Flannelly, who held many high school records that Weinkofsky surpassed.

Any how, he was drafted by the Yankees and sent to Oneonta (hope I spelled that right) N.Y. and our columnist, Bill Handleman, went up there and a did a story on him.

But Montana is probably "a bridge too far."

Re: Tuna. To his advantage is - he has power to all fields, and is willing to take the walk and not chase.

It'll be interesting to see how he does at the the next level up - Brookdale, which is pretty good baseball.

Re: Tuna, I haven't seen him play in person but have read a ton of coverage (not a knock by the way). He's clearly a very talented player but there was obviously something in the makeup that didn't translate immediately to the pro game. Possibly hitting with wood? Or ideal position/defense? Just throwing it out there, no idea.

Wasn't he also supposed to go to UNC-Wilmington (or UNC-other location)? The Blues play great JUCO ball but the lack of exposure may prove tough. Principie was drafted this year from Brookdale as far back as a round in the late 30's I think. Ideal would be a solid yr or two and a transfer to better comp to see if Tuna can be lumped in with the Frazier's and Kalish's out there. Just too soon to predict....

Re: Tuna. Was ticketed for UNC Greensboro. Apparently academics were an issue.

But I think Brookdale is a good spot for him....eligible to be drafted after either year or could go to a four-year `school from there....

We'll see how he develops. I thought he was at least a decent def, catcher..he also played some first base...

Offensively has tremendous power.... and - I believe from what I saw in HS - not a wild, undisciplined swinger..

Well Tony still no post, It's 9:53pm...love details. My Space websight is staring to look like the move to make? What do you think? Should get some good responses of course not appropiate for here, but from the heart and truthful. My older two children and friends, 25+ year groups, played under this system his first year w/your coach friend and M. Sauble. Why you won't discuss Legion Ball and the accomplishments and fairures of the Spring to learn from it, is beyond me. What are you afraid or ashamed of? Will post under Legion Post where it belongs. But you never fail to mention my son's good friend Keith. He is not a Tuna, a fish, but a boy playing his game to the best of his ability.
But you cannot deny all I have said to you in the past regardless of your opinion of me. Truly, DCH Have a nice Tuesday and everyday.

Never forget Kyle N, played his heart out and came a long way. Eric Hinkle just got noticed he qualified for D1 and we are one happy family now. He never got any easy games pitching and too many undecisions going 7 inning 0-0 score. Once the #1's came out. OT would win 1-0. You figure it out. 6-1 stats in final APP. Deceiving if game not watched. He will to to Brooklyn to pitch etc and he is happy. Again anything can happen in Legion Ball, coaches are evaluating players, unless you ar one of the privilege whom could never lose a spot. Hope this clownlike coach tries Rozenkranz at short. Plays a good short. Did gueto sp? retire yet? Wish coach had the gonads to speak and go over the last three years. Freshman w/Coasta was a dream and so was Wilderotter in 7th/8th.

To DCH..whoever that may be...was I supposed to be responding to something??

Sorry I took some time off from the blog to go fishing on my vacation. . Should I apoligize?

Re:Legion ball. We can surely discuss it here though we, as a paper, do not cover Legion on a daily basis though not for any particular reason other than lack of office man power during the summer, and also generally for lack of broad reader demand for same.

Tuna (KW) is not a fish?...Thank you for enlightening us...

By the way - I did not give him that nickname - he's had it since his frshman year- and he seems to enjoy it..

Please enjoy your day as well...

My Dear last reader 7/16/07. 7;35pm
Tony left the jist of the post out for his own reasons. So it would not make sense to you. We have known keith and family since little league and beyond. My ex played township ball with Chuck Sr. the detective and has helped our family in my ways. You know there is a life outside of baseball. Tuna is not flattering. MY son is called Zeek and loves it.
Keep in good health, that is what it is all about at our or Tony's age, think he has a few on me, have to rub it in, He deserves it. Try My Space, my 24 and 25 year olds let me use their account. It is a blast when I can find the time.

I left this post out by mistake...

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Who's No. 1 (in 2008)??":

If not repeated here because i screwup up copying from another post, please forgive me, never forget Kyle Norman and Eric Hinkle without them who knows. Congrat Sherry and JT on Kyles choice of college. We just go news Eric qualified for D1 and Brooklyn here he comes.
Legion Ball is a horse of a different color. Players in and out to show their ability, if not already prepicked in the coaches minds. Not an indication of the Spring.
Eric had alot of indecisions 0-0 in the 7th/8th, a #2 pitcher comes in as a relief and OT scores 1-0. So never look at SAT facts at face value.
I am sure we are all happy families with alot of work ahead of us with our boys or should I say their hard work, we can finally sleep in. Good bye Tony, must admit you are a witty, clever writer, our opinions not so sure, and I can see why you are still writing. Please post..Thank you

From me: I am having a little bit of a hard time trying to translate all these posts - BUT - Anyone who calls me "witty and clever" gets published!!!

Thanks for posting, I meant stats, not SATS, this writing is so small I can not catch my own spelling errors. All kidding aside your sense of humor keeps me reading. Do you write any other columns except for sports. Would love to see a column in APP just on general life. Have a healthy week.
DCH
PS sp errors--italian for gueoto JV coach sp?, gonads think I spelled it right for them to talk to me and clear the dark mucky air. Thanks again for posting and excuse spelling.

Tony,
How long are you going to continue to allow Ms. H. from Ocean, poor grammar and all, to grind her axe regarding OT baseball and the head coach of OT. The way I see it, she should be THANKING him for not tossing her son off of the team during the past 2 seasons. I have seen OT play 6 times in the last 2 seasons and I have much respect for the player, (EH) but from what I understand the coach did all he could to not only keep him on the team, but to keep him in school as well. He did this to help the kid! Maybe she should keep her mouth shut and let her son continue with his education and his promising baseball career. (He is a very good player) We hear you Ms. H. and we know you do not like the coach, now let it end. Your comments are both ugly and boring.

I'm also unsure what it ultimately had to do with the Frazier/Kalish debate. One post is understandable, there are message boards on other unnamed sites where negative posts are rampant and belong.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming:

Relating to a Frazier, Todd's brother Jeff came up with a 2-out GW RBI single last night for High Desert in the California League....hopefully he can turn up the production and get another look at AA. Todd was 1-4, RBI in a winning effort as well. No start for Kalish, his arms probably needed a rest from the tear he's been on....

Tony keep it up next year you have a hugh BB fan here and you have continued to make HS baseball fun in the SC....

He receive all he was capable jr year and was signed by a NYC team D1.Wish him luck, not bad mouth me,D, you do not know behind the scenes, our family history etc. He has come a long way and will continue. He is determined, like the rest of his (3) last year senior BB PLAYERS. Take care of you own boys/girls if they are not of age yet.
PS Don't be surprised if Dell moves on in the coming years for a higher paying job to help support his boys. Have a great day.
