Next year's All-Shore possibilities?

This could be fun to speculate.

Let's start with ace Anthony DeSclafani from Colts Neck. I know I really extended my neck on that one.

Brian Battalglia (Howell). The hit machine returns for his senior year.

Pitcher Steve Fereno (TR East).

Ist baseman Billy Hoermann (TR North). Had an outstanding sophomore season.

SS Chris (or Brian as I like to call him) Bresnahan..St. Rose. A brilliant glove.

Jamie Rosenkranz (Ocean). Pitcher, infielder, all around teriffic player.

Todd Juliano (Shore). Banged 10 HR as a sophomore.

I know I am leaving a few off here, and in some instances have done so purposely...( I've got to let you do some of the work, make your nominations and why you think might be on the All-Shore cusp in 2008).

Chase Gray - TRS - 2B... the kid is nasty.
And although he's no Billy Hoermann, TRN's Steve Nyisztor also had a great sophomore season.

chase gray is a player to watch ... great kid, gamer, terrific bat, does anything to win ...ive also herd Seton Hall has been watching him closely ... ryan kapp a little shakey at times with the bat this year but did post 5 homeruns as a sophomore that cant go overlooked, if he puts things together(he enormous talent and hardwork on some mechanical problems) he could be a force to be reckoned with throughout the state!

Some interesting names mentioned so far to be sure.

I would say Rosenkranz, Rivera, Hoermann, Gray, would be the early "leaders" for next year from this group.

This is all speculation - none, one, two, three, or four of the above could make it - and this post in no way has any bearing on the 08 team (I felt I needed to put in that disclaimer!)

Carlino was a player I have not heard much of, and a freshman catcher from Long Branch, Wagner, has been getting some notice on the GM topic...

Marques Jackson from Long Branch 3B

Chase Gray certainly has the ability to be 1st team next year, as well as Ryan Kapp (absolutely dominating in the American Legion this summer) Drew Holt is also somebody to watch next year for the Indians. They have a loaded pitching squad returning (Holt, Bissey, Viviano and Gebler)

Billy Hoermann and Zach Zebner (TRN) Steve Ferrano (TRE)

Tony,

Little off topic, but why doesnt the APP follow the American Legion summer action. How difficult would it be to save 1/2 page of sports section to post box scores of Ocean and Monmouth Legion scores? The OC Observer posts box scores and recaps of its Ocean County teams (as long as they call the game in)

While I didn't see LB this year I heard some nice things about Jackson, and it seems every time an LB game was reported he was one of the players hitting well.

Re: Am Legion. You'll have to e-mail the sports editor on that one.

I don't know how many Legion games there are a night - but we likely would not take box (line) scores.

Maybe a sentance or two is a possibility - but that would be for next year - and depends on other factors - space, summer man power, etc.

I'll mention it (for next year) when I return from vacation next week.

I was just curious on the American Legion... it seems odd that a newspaper like the Observer (which has a smaller budget and smaller athletic department) than the Press is able to cover the games in Ocean County (based on coaches account) It really is ashame that "Rally" shuts down after graduation when there are games yet to be played. Not only that, but the Press also covers the Jersey Shore Basketball League very closely, so why not Legion games?

As far as games, I believe most teams only play 2 or 3 games a week. Just a suggestion, and I'm sure baseball fans would appreciate it

Re: Legion. I appreciate your point. As`I said, I will bring it up with my boss when I return next week.

You may also e-mail him at ghenderson@app.com.

All told it may be too late on a regular basis for this year.

I may be doing something with the junior legion state tournament which will be hosted by Wall, but not sure exactly what - or how much - if anything - we'll do.

yea i was a senior on that LB team this year and pitched when wagner caught for me..when he got called up when our regular catcher left for personal reasons i couldnt believe the kid..he is a baseball player no doubt has a gun and with a little less hesitation will throw out runners with ease..very accurate arm..he also is a sound hitter with a little work he will become very productive..as for jackson he lost a year of varsity play due to the fact that andruw small was the third baseman last year..he is an amazing leadoff guy with unreal speed and tremendous power for his size..he plays with a ton of fire and is a real ignitor for a team..

I looked up the line score from that LB-Squan game and Wagner did hit a double in the contest.. Squan won, 13-10.

Dan Camano, the catcher out of Wall, threw a very high percentage of runners out behind the plate, as well as having a .300 avg and 20+ RBIs. I think he will be 1st or 2nd team All Shore next season.

why is it you comment and add your 2 cents to everyone but when I make one about Camano from Wall......nothing

C'mon now. My comments aren't at least worth a nickel??

By the way, I haven't talked about every single player mentioned here.

I did see Drew play but nothing jumps out at me about him - that said it has no bearing on any potential 2008 All-Shore status by the way.

He had a nice year, no question...If you or anyone else cares to add more about him I will be happy to run it.

What about Chris Ruffler SS at SJV.... he was the only junior starter and may have been overshadowed by all the seniors....he is going to have to put up good numbers

July 8, 2007 at 5:46 PM

Ruffler - don't have his BA in front of me but I do recall taking his name at times in stories or for the line scores during the season....as a one of a few experienced players in 2008 he'll be looked upon to keep help keep the winning ways going..

definately Ruffler, Marc Teel and Kevin Maclaughlin at SJV will be fun to watch this year.!!

RE: TRS Pitching Staff

Holt, Bissey, Gebler and Vivaona

Should be a very solid pitching staff. The team also has some pop in the lineup with the likes of Delvento, Gray, Gebler and Kapp returning

Take a look at the American Legion records now, TRS is 15-0 and pretty much laid waste to every team they faced (which also included 7 run victories over TRE and Jackson)

July 13, 2007 at 12:42 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

TRS has previously had trouble producing runs for their pitchers in big games. (as seen vs. north in state play and also in the regular season)

Re: TRS offense. Those three 1-0 late season losses would underline that...hard to believe if I hadn't seen two of them myself...

TR S was not its usual fundamentally sound self this season..
