TR NORTH 4, TR SOUTH 3: Billy Hoermann's two-out solo homer over the left field wall in the top of the seventh broke a 3-3 tie and enabled the Mariners (7-1, 6-1), ranked No. 1 in the Asbury Park Pressp Top 10 to avenge an opening day defeat to the No. 8 Indians (5-4, 3-4) and remain in sole possession of first place in Class A South.

Hoermann, a sophomore, went 3-for-4 with two RBI. He also scored two runs.

Toms River South tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Tyler Gebler's single up the middle scored Joe Talerico, who had reached on an error.

Toms River North wiped out a 2-0 deficit in the top of the fourth on RBI single by Hoermann and a two-run double by Mike Reid.

Senior Anthony Scorsone picked up the win with 12/3 innings of one-hit relief with
