STAFF REPORT

The Freehold Township Senior League baseball team continued its winning ways by downing Brick American 7-2 at Old Bridge Little League Field on Tuesday to capture the Section 3 championship.
After Chris Ballester's single in the bottom of the fifth inning gave Freehold Township a 3-2 lead, the team then tacked on four more runs in the inning to seal the victory for the District 19 champs.
Tom Wojciechowski doubled in two runs and Bryan Gillis connected on a two-RBI single for Freehold Township. Pitcher Anthony Cirillo Jr. did not allow a run in the sixth or seventh innings for the victory.
"We came into the game very confident and relaxed tonight," Freehold Township manager Anthony Cirillo Sr. said.
"We knew that we had the edge just because we had to lose two in a row to get eliminated. Our confidence and sound defensive play carried us to a victory tonight."
The core of the Freehold Township team has already achieved a great deal of success when it went to Bristol, Conn., as 12-year-olds as New Jersey state champs, and again when it won the Junior League (13-14) Eastern Regionals and earned a trip to the World Series in Taylor, Mich.
"Five of my boys have lost only one district game since they've been 12 years old," Cirillo said. "I like our chances advancing on. We have an experienced group that knows what it takes to win."
Freehold Township will now take on Section 4 champion North Cumberland in the Senior League state tournament at 8:15 p.m. in South Vineland on Friday

This is not legion, it is Freehold Township Little League, the senior division (16 and under).

Toms River South-- Regular Season Divison Champions

Brick Memorial-- Ocean County Champions

Mon Don-- Runners Up to Brick Memorial, and automatically qualify for the state tourney

NOTE: TRS didnt play in the County Tournament, they received an automatic qualification to the state tourney since they won the regular season championship... they remain undefeated to date

These three will be representing Ocean County in the State Legion Tournament

Tony,
The Sr. American Legion regular season is over. In the Monmouth County League, Monmouth was the regular season champion, finishing undefeated (1 tie) in the 19 team league. Colts Neck was second, Ocean and Freehold Boro were 3rd and 4th. In Ocean County, TR South was the regular season champs. Brick Memorial was the playoff champion and Mon. Don was the playoff runnerup. Each of the aforementioned teams move on to the sectional tournament at one of 4 sights throughout NJ. Monmouth will be at Moody park in Ewing. TRS, Freehold Boro, and CN will be at West Deptford. Mon. Don, Ocean and Brick Memorial will be in Cape May/Wildwood. Each section will have 8 teams and the top 2 teams advance to the state final 8. The Monmouth and Ocean county teams will be at a slight disadvantage when it comes to the sectional tournament because the teams in our league with the exception of Freehold Boro are used as a preview/tryout for the high school spring season. Since American Legion is 19 and under throughout the state and country other leagues have players that have graduated hs in '06 and have a season of college ball under their belt already. Some teams have tryouts and accept the best players from 6 or 7 of the closest high schools in the area. Imagine if we could take a team made up of the best '06 and'07 graduates from all 3 TR schools and Mon. Don. and put them on 1 team! We would be better equipped to compete in the upcoming tournament. The kids who are competing in the tournament are 'playing up' and undoubtedly will give everything their best. Anyone who moves on will have done something special.

As of today, I believe Toms River South is the only Shore Conference team still alive in Legion Ball

Mon Don and Brick Memorial were eliminated earlier this weekend... Toms River South lost its opening game to West Deptford, but then beat up on both Colts Neck and Freehold. I believe they need to sweep their games today to advance to the next round. Kapp hit two HR's, Gray and Gebler also went deep for the Indians in their win over Freehold
