Fan Forum - 2007 Ocean County Tournament/My take on some games Saturday
This is YOUR blog (well, it always is) - as fans, rooters, followers, to comment on the OCT games thoughout the tournament.. Go to it!!!.
My take on the two games I saw today and P Boro vs. Jackson and TRN/Barnegat
PB vs. Jackson - Pete Chomiak pitched a steady game. Didn't hurt himself with walks ..then when he issued two to begin the sixth..waded through the bottom of the lineup to escape damage.
Big hit by Bill Heur - 3-run double in the first inning. Pat Biserta plunked an opposite field double that scored a run..hit three towering fly balls that were caught.
Soph Kevin Needham pitched well in relief for Jackson which I thought would mount a rally against Chomiak but it never happened. Jags are not hitting well except for one hot streak
and pitching has carried them.
TRN vs. Barnegat - Was going to cover the TRS vs. P Boro game but moved to the TRN-B game by the third inning as TR South bolted to a big lead.
Excellent game. I felt if TRN kept it close they would pull it out which is what transpired. Their more experienced team overall I felt made the difference in the end though Barnegat again showed why it should be quite formidable in '08, already my pick to win B South.
Barnegat is so fundamental and well coached ..reminds me of a Toms River team (any of the three) as well it should since coaches are from TR South....and Sutaris played at TRS when Schelmay was an assistant for Ken Frank..
Give TR N credit for hanging in there and waiting for opportunities. Geran made some big pitches to avoid major damage in the sixth (bases loaded, no outs, and gave up just
the tying run) and Alonso tied the game in the fifth, threw out a runner trying to steal in the seventh, and went the other way on his to single to right to win it.
TRN-TRS Round Three should be a doozy. I would think Brebner pitches this one Monday for TRN and it looks like Gebler is available for six innings for TR South...
Don't forget to check our blog Monday for progress reports of TRE vs. Manchester and TRN vs. TRS and for the SCT seedings...
Press coverage plans - Steve Falk and I will both plan to cover an OCT semifinal Monday..and I hope to be at the OCT final Wednesday.
