ADMIRALS SAIL INTO STATES FOR FIRST TIME IN A DECADE
HENRY HUDSON 5, DAVID BREARLEY 4: Junior Brian Olofson was the winning pitcher and led off the seventh inning with his third double of the nonconference game Thursday night. He rode home on a two-out single by Dan Kissiday, his second RBI of the game, to give the Admirals (8-7) a win over the Bears (6-10) and their first trip to the NJSIAA Tournament in a decade.
According to coach Henry Hudson coach Tom Lynch the school had not played in the postseason event since at least 1997 when Ocean coach De Dal Pra was the boss.
Olofson finished 4-for-4, scored three runs, and stole two bases.
Henry Hudson trailed 2-0 and 4-3 and tied the game in the fifth when Olofson doubled and scored on a Kissady hit.
Olofson, a left-hander, was in trouble in the seventh but struck out the last two batters with runners at second and third.
""They're ecstatic,'' said Lynch of his team. ""I had to promise them a stop at McDonald's on the way back if they'd be quiet.''
Henry Hudson won four games last season. ""The combination of juniors and seniors really stepped up this year,'' Lynch said.

WALL 7, MIDDLETOWN SOUTH 0: Junior left-hander Mark Pellecchia allowed three hits over five innings and struck out six as the Knights (16-3) stopped the Eagles (5-16) Thursday night in a nondivision game.
Kyle Middleton's two-run double in the first inning gave Wall a 3-0 lead. Matt Logan added two hits and scored one run for Wall.

RED BANK CATHOLIC 11, MONMOUTH 6: Sophomore Jake Beim blasted a three-run home run in the second inning as the Caseys (13-7) built a 7-0 lead over the Golden Falcons (8-9) in a nondivision game.
J. C. Menna hit a solo home run when RBC scored twice in the first inning. The loss eliminated Monmouth (8-9) from the NJSIAA Tournament unless it can find a game Friday. Beim went 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Cole DeAngelis hit two doubles and drove in two runs for Monmouth belting a drive off the top of the centerfield fence with the bases loaded in a five-run fifth inning.

RUMSON 12, HOLMDEL 1: Winning pitcher Ben Miller allowed four hits over five innings and went 3-for-4 with five RBI as the Bulldogs (14-3, 10-2) downed the Hornets (8-10, 6-7) in Class A Central to finish on top in a divison for the first time since 1996.
Rumson, which had already won the A Central public title, got an RBI triple from Miller in the first inning, a two-run single in the second, and a two-run double in the fifth inning.
John Lembeck went 3-for-4 with ewo RBI for Rumson.
Mike Renna singled and doubled for Holmdel which was eliminated from the NJSIAA Tournament with the loss.

CBA 10, RED BANK 1: Senior Jim Laufer hit a two-run home run to stake the Colts (16-3) to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and bombed a solo shot in the fifth to back five strong innings from junior Remy Cohen (4-0) in a victory over the Bucs (4-13) in the Monmouth County Tournament.
The win was the 11th in a row for CBA which advances to the semifinals to play Red Bank Catholic next week.
Cohen struck out seven and walked one while allowing five hits.

MONSIGNOR DONOVAN 6, MATER DEI 5: Winning pitcher Ken Ouimet's RBI single with the bases-loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Griffins (11-8) a non-division win over the Serpahs (4-14).
The win enabled Donovan to clinch a berth in the Shore Conference Tournament whose entries close Monday for teams at .500 or better.
Russ Young of Mater Dei hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

MANALAPAN 14, NEPTUNE 10: Chris Lamboy triggered a six-run sixth inning with a double and had an RBI single in the inning when the Braves (15-6) overcame a 10-8 deficit to down the Scarlet Fliers (9-10).
Neptune must defeat Red Bank (4-12) Friday to make the state tournament.
Nick Turano was 2-for-4 with four RBI for Manalapan on a two-run hit in the third inning and a two-run double in the fourth.

BRICK 8, LAKEWOOD 7: Anthony Nardone hit a three-run home run, and Jared Page and Jordan Roshala solo shots enabling the Green Dragons (8-9-1) to hold off the Piners (5-12) and keep their NJSIAA hopes alive - pending a game at TR South Thursday night - with a nondivision victory.
Roshala's home run gave Brick an 8-5 lead in the top of the seventh. Chris Guzman made it 8-7 with a two-run single for Lakewood which left the bases to end the game.
Ray Johnson paced Brick's 15 hit attack with four singles and a walk and scored a run. Page and Nardone went 3-for-4 for Brick.
Max Wolfe went 2-for-3 and scored a run for Lakewood.
Jim D'Aloia doubled, walked three times, stole a base, and scored a run for the Piners.

Junior right-hander Ed Truitt scattered two hits over the last four innings for his first varsity win.
Ryan Orlando had two singles, an RBI and scored twice, and Truitt singled and doubled, drove in a run and scored one when Pinelands scored nine runs in the sixth inning.
L.C. Elich contributed a two-run double in the sixth.
