I'll state it again, I'm not big with this two group system that the OCT has turned too.
The "Brick" Division is much much tougher. Jackson, Toms River North, Toms River South and Barnegat all have 12+ wins this year.
The same could not be said about the "Lakewood" bracket. Manchester and Toms River East and unknown New Egypt squad...Manchester hasnt been overly impressive outside of B-South competition. Whats the scoop on New Egypt. I'm sure most Ocean County schools know nothing about this program
In response the groups were relatively the same last year and the other division was the Stronger one. (TRN and Jackson had down years) So since the groups are made well in advance you really knock it too much.
Although you could make a case for the selection of the sites. Lakewood and Brick get home games while both are the lower seed. Not to mention that the actual facilities are not very good. I mean Brick's Varsity field isn't too bad but their JV field is. And Lakewood's two fields - well lets just say theu are subpar and that is being nice for the JV field.
I'm sure TRN are saving them big guns for tournament play BUT????????????????. But the Golden Eagles are comin'and they better be ready because that record Central has says nothing about that team (i know PINELANDS first)and than most likely THE BEAT WITH THE BAYVILLE HEAT on SAT.
THE BALD EAGLE
Baldie
I admire your enthusiasm, however, at first glance you may be spending too much time in the sun...but, you never know...
Exactly, Brick and Lakewood. Both subpar facilities in my book. I think they really need to due away with this two bracket tournament. Bring it back to the old format (yes, it took longer) however typically in the end, the two best teams in Ocean County were going head to head.
That certainly wasnt the case last year with Lacey and Toms River East in my opinion.
Maybe if Central recruited Ranaudo for the day, The Eagles might have a chance. Central has to hit the ball to beat TRN... and they didnt do that in the first meeting
It may not be perfect but this IS the best format - in my opinion.
You want to have these county tournaments but you certainly DON't want them dragging on until Xmas (see MCT for exampls) or interfering with the SCT and NJSIAAs.
Facilities on opening day may not be the greatest but you can't play every game in Toms River. That said, you can't do much better than the TRs for the semis and FEP for the final.
I'm from New Egypt and don't sleep on us!!!!!! We haven't been expected to do much this year, but we persevered, we have dealt with a lot of adversity and we may shock a lot of people this weekend.
Re: New Egypt.I guess I can see you beating Southern, but that might be a push. But then you would get TR East.
I admire your enthusiasm but that might be the end of the road.
