Howell 7, Barnegat 4 - Rebels (9-11) stay alive for states...


Brick 7, Point Boro 1 - Chris Simon 3-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI, John Vitale 1-for-1 with 3 walks, 2 runs.; 2-run triple 5th inning.


CBA 8, Freehold 1 - Scott Micallef 3-4 with a single, a double and drove in two runs; Dave Diaz 2-3 with two singles and drove in two runs. WP Dave Laufer walked one batter, struck out four, gave up two hits.


Lacey 5, Central 1 - Ed Trapper was 1-2 with two runs scored and a double.

Manalapan 7, Holmdel 5 - Jay Goldheimer's RBI single snapped an 5-5 tie in the 11th inning and Jeff Lapoclo had an RBI double that gave the Braves (14-6) a nondivision win over the Hornets (8-9).

TR East 6, Manchester 2 - Pete Fitzsimmons, junior left-hander, struck out eight, walked three allowed two unearned runs in the first innning; Chris Wedding, 2-for-4, four RBI, two-run single in the second and two-run single in the sixth; Sean Gavin 2-for-3, two runs scored.






GAME REPORTS



MIDDLETOWN NORTH 6, OCEAN 2: Chris Rotolo banged an RBI double in a four-run second inning and the Lions (9-10) kept their NJSIAA hopes alive with a nondivision victory that snapped the 13-game winning streak of the No. 2 Spartans (15-4).
Pat Hanson's RBI single with two down in the fifth inning made it 5-2 and Chris Saginor singled in the seventh and scored on a double by Jim Trancucci.
Kevin Engelbrecht scattered six hits, struck out, four, and walked two to improve to 4-3.
Keith Weinkofsky had an RBI single and walked for Ocean.
North hosts Holmdel Friday and must win to earn an NJSIAA Berth.

ROCKETS SOAR INTO STATES
An upswing for the Raritan High School baseball team in an uneven season couldn't have come at a better time.
Dave Shrum and Chris Clayton both laced two-run singles in a six-run fourth inning helping send the Rockets to a 9-3 win over Marlboro in a nondivision game.
The triumph enabled Raritan (9-8) to qualify for the NJSIAA Tournament for the 12th year in a row according to coach T. J. O'Donnell.
The big inning, touched off by a Marc Zecchino double, staked Raritan to a 7-0 lead. Shrum went 3-for-3 and Clayton 2-for-3 and Kevin Yorks added two hits and drove in one run and scored one.
Raritan started the season 2-4, then won five of six to climb back into the post-season picture in Central Jersey Group II.

HOWELL 7, BARNEGAT 4: Junior Chance Carrick hit his second home run in two games and fifth of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth inning when the Rebels (9-11) opened a 7-1 lead over the Bengals (12-6) to keep their NJSIAA hopes alive.
Junior Brian Battaglia had a two-run double in the second inning and Joe Locascio had a solo home run in the fifth.
Sam Redmond homered with none on in the third inning for Barnegat and Brandon Frustiere had three hits for the Bengals.

MANALAPAN 7, HOLMDEL 5: Jay Goldheimer's RBI single snapped a 5-5 tie in the 11th inning and Jeff Lapoclo had an RBI double that gave the Braves (14-6) a nondivision win over the Hornets (8-9).
Manalapan took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 10th inning on a passed ball and in the bottom half pinch-runner Rob Palermo stole second and third and also scored on a passed ball.
Dave Becker doubled and singled twice for Manalapan and Nick Turano went 2-for-5 and scored three runs.
Brian O'Neill went 3-for-5 for Holmdel.
Holmdel hosts Rumson Thursday and visits Middletown North Friday and must win both games to gain an NJSIAA Tournament berth.
