A tough climb.....But Panthers claw their way into the states...

Because Nick Campbell came through in the clutch Thursday, Point Pleasant Boro has made it back to the NJSIAA Tournament.
Campbell, a senior No. 4 hitter, followed an intentional walk to slugger Pat Biserta in the third inning with a two-run triple that snapped a 1-1 tie and sent the Panthers to a crucial 5-3 nondivision win over Manasquan.
Point Boro (9-9), the defending NJSIAA South Jersey II champion, qualified to defend its crown with the victory. Teams must have records of .500 or better after Friday to participate in the state tournament.
Manasquan (9-10) must defeat Howell (9-11) Friday to earn a berth in Central Jersey II.
""Nick has gotten a lot more consistent and doing a good job in the four spot,'' said Point Boro coach Walt Currie.
""We started 3-6,'' said Currie. ""We dug ourselves a pretty deep hole. But went went 6-3 and managed to get in.''
Point Boro made it 5-1 in the fifth inning when Drew Zanowic scored on an error and Bill Heuer had a pinch-hit RBI double.
Brad Newman went 2-for-2 with a single and a run scored and doubled home a run in the sixth inning for Manasquan, and Kevin Kircher had an RBI single.

I'd really like to see how this year's intentional walks have worked out for teams that have faced PatB, Tuna, Laufer boys, and other sluggers in the SC. I saw it absolutely kill a couple of teams vs Ocean this year where Hinkle had 3-4 RBI games after walks to Tuna and obviously yesterday with P P Boro gettting the win after Pat B was IW ed...would be interesting so see who "over-coached"

yesterday was probably the first time we hurt anyone after Biserta was intentionally walked for around the 15th time.
